Geothermal uses the earths heat to heat and air conditioning
your home. A few meters of surface soil insulate the earth
and ground water below. The warm earth and ground water below
the surface provide a free, renewable source of energy.
The free energy is moved from the ground into your home.
This is done by drawing ground water and using a heat pumop
to extract heat from it and circulating it through underground
piping called a loop. The loop is buried in the soil outside
your home and transfers heat form the ground water to a heat
pump in your home.
The loop is built from plastic pipe which is buried in the
ground outside your home either in a horizontal or vertical
trench. The loop can also be laid in the bottom of a lake
or pond. Closed loops pump chilled water back into the loop
and the process begins agani without the water ever leaving
the loop. An open loop uses water from one well and returns
it to a different well. Depending on the amount of water
and land available decides which one is suitable for your
home.
More than two-thirds of the energy delivered to your home
by geothermal is renewable energy stored in the ground. There
are virtually no toxic emissions. For every KW of electricity
used to operate a geothermal system, it draws more than three
KW of free renewable energy from the ground.
